SWEET SICILY

MANDORLE E GOLA: FESTA!

There is nothing more Sicilian than sweets made from almonds. These treats are a product of centuries of history and tradition. Torrone (nougat) for example, is a recipe that derives from an Arab feast (FESTA). The main ingredients of nougat are almonds and honey, which have always been part of the gastronomical culture of Sicily. So are praline almonds coated with sugar. Chocolate covered almonds are a newer discovery of Sicilian pastry making: an idea that bridges Paris, where these sweets were invented, and Palermo. In Sicily, every town has its own variation on almond sweets, and each family has its own secret recipe. In just one bite, you can feel the harmony, joy and pleasure that went into making it.
